New England Oceanographic Laboratory Inc. is a non-profit corporation that actively engages in scientific research concerning the past, present, and future state of the oceans. Our focus is on the long-term as well as changing conditions of the oceans and ocean sediments. These include the inputs to and losses from the oceans, changes within the oceans and their underlying sediments, and equally importantly, the impacts of the ocean's changes on global ecosystem and society. We embrace dynamism and innovation, so our research teams win funding for and lead research projects from government agencies and private institutions. Whenever possible, results of these projects will be presented in publicly available forums, including traditional scientific literature, agency data repositories, and as well as in our own web-based articles. A description of the various scientific projects can be found under the Research menu.
As additional part of our public service mission, we provide a venue in which to publish and distribute literature relating to the oceans or to our activities. Short articles about specific topics are available for general audiences, while selected research reports and manuscripts are available for in-depth study. These are available under our Public Library menu.
